Gola: The life and Last Days of an Island Community.
by F. H. Aalen (Author), Hugh Brody (Author)

Gola is a small rocky and exposed island off the remote western coast of County Donegal in Ireland, once inhabited by a vigorous community of over 200 people dependant on fishing and seasonal labour migrations to supplement the output of their small farms. Until 1930, the island population continued to increase but subsequently numbers have declined rapidly and very soon the island will be completely deserted. this book describes the geographical setting of Gola and investigates the traditional life and present predicament of the island's community.
